The Processors and Growers Research Organisation (PGRO) will launch the 2022 Descriptive List for combining peas, winter and spring beans on 24 November.
PGRO’s work showcases variety trials from the 2021 growing season and staff will be on hand at the CropTec event to discuss the results.
Performance in independent trials will be an important aid for growers making decisions about which varieties to plant in future years, using data on important factors such as yield and disease resistance.
This will be the second publication of the Descriptive List after PGRO modernised the way it presents its findings in 2020. The move from a recommended list to a descriptive list means information is presented in line with modern grower requirements.
PGRO Chief Executive Roger Vickers said: “I am really looking forward to launching our Descriptive List this year and hope to see many growers at CropTec this year, where we will be available to answer questions.
“This year, we saw an extremely dry and very cold spring following mixed conditions over the summer, and the Descriptive List will be available to show growers how varieties have performed in a variety of conditions and how they compare.”
Pulses UK President, James Maguire, said: “Since being elected as Pulses UK President earlier this year, I have seen the market for plant-based food products grow by 40%.
“At CropTec, we’ll be highlighting how we can capture as many as these new opportunities as possible so that UK farmers can benefit for this global trend.”
The CropTec Show will take place at the East of England Showground in Peterborough on 24-25 November 2021. Visitors can register now for free tickets at www.croptecshow.com/register
