The addition of the SESVANDERHAVE sugar beet varieties Adder and Tawny to the British Beet Research Organisation’s Recommended List for 2023. The recommendation reflects the result of a decade of breeding and extensive UK trialling where both varieties have delivered consistent and resilient performance.
The new varieties join Wren and the beet cyst nematode tolerant variety Lacewing which remain popular with growers for delivering strong performance and value for money.
In recent years, SESVANDERHAVE extensive field trialling in the UK has sought to mirror commercial practice.
“On our field trials we use SESVANDERHAVE primed and pelleted seed drilled to a stand, and integrate different fertiliser regimes and spray programmes. This allows us to screen genetics and seed treatments to help deliver the increasing need for resilience in the sugar beet crop,” says Ian Munnery, UK Director for the company.
Investment
“The investment in Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy on our mobile tarehouse means we can now analyse sugar content as we harvest; thus accelerating selection of promising genetics and keeping down trial costs.”
As a result of these advances in trialling, SESVANDERHAVE has an exciting line-up of new products in the pipeline that are likely to significantly improve UK sugar beet production in the years ahead.
The recently recommended varieties along with promising future products will be on show for visitors to SESVANDERHAVE trial sites during the coming summer. For more information and to book a place, either call 01522 442000 or email: contactuk@sesvanderhave.com
