UK sugar beet growers have started lifting their crops this week with the factories opening a little earlier than last year.
Following a later start to last year’s campaign British Sugar is reverting back to the more usual mid-September start dates for its factories to begin processing the crop. This is to allow growers to plan their harvesting and delivery accordingly.”
This season’s campaign start dates are:
- Newark 14 September
- Bury 18 September
- Wissington 25 September
- Cantley 25 September
Colm McKay, agriculture director said: “We‘re pleased to have been able to give growers the campaign start dates at an early point so they can plan their harvesting and delivery plans accordingly. We’re positive about this coming year’s crop and, as stated, the latest sugar production estimate for 2017/18 is in excess of 1.4 million tonnes’
