The early maize variety, KWS Calvini, has been added to the British Society of Plant Breeders’ Forage Maize Descriptive List for 2020. Categorised as a first choice for less favourable areas, KWS Calvini comes from plant breeder, KWS UK.
The company’s John Burgess describes the variety as a “good all-rounder. “KWS Calvini has excellent ripening stability and super starch performance, with a figure of 33.5% for 2020, as well an ME content of 11.54 MJ/Kg.”
“It has an FAO 160/170 and is suitable for both forage and energy production. Other features of KWS Calvini include exceptional early vigour and a high grain content; it produced the top dry matter yield in its class across all *NIAB trials at an average of 18 tonnes/hectare and above.”
